Doesn't look like a trolley car illustration to me; more like a Chicago El train.

Looks closer to the IRT subway in good old Gotham to me. The Conductor used to ride between the cars.

And they also used to stand between the cars in Chicago as well.

True; I would agree with the New York assessment though because Chicago "L" cars generally didn't have marker lights protruding from the roof as shown in the illustration. That was more a hallmark of Brooklyn Rapid Transit and Interborough Rapid Transit in New York.
