I came upon this one and thought it was worth posting.

It looks to be a German built 2-8-2.

There are two Jung-built 2-8-2s in Brazil. This one looks like #3 (Jung 11944/1954), in Tubarao. A sister engine, #4 (Jung 11943/1954), is operational on the ‘Trem do Vinho’ tourist train, Bento Gonçalves, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

A group of Brazilian Railway fans have but together a fantastic book on all of the surviving steam locomotives in Brazil. It is pricey, but it features a color photograph of every surviving steam locomotive in Brazil; plus similiar details to those found in JDC's directory for North America. It is not just a book; it is a work of art, and a labor of love.

Jung 2-8-2 #4 was modified by Ing. L. D. Porta with a Lempor exhaust (evidently slightly different from previous Lempors) and the Gas Producer Combustion System.

I forgot to mention that the body of the text in this book is in both English and Spanish. The specs of the locomotives in the inventory are in Spanish only; but it is fairly easy to figure out what it is (imagine looking at JDC's directory in Spanish.) Once again, a very well put together, but pricey book.

Thanks for the link. At $100, pricey indeed, but lots of interesting photos on the website.

Hi Guys,

I was down to visit Turbarao in 2007. I have a bunch of pictures if you are interested I'll resize some.

My good friend here Sergio Romano worked on the RR in the 80s as the Shop foreman and worked with Da Porta on the modifications. Most of which have been removed from the remaining engines running. He is a founding father of the ABPF (Association Brazilian Preservation Railroads).

By the way the language is Portuguese which I need to go do my homework now for my private lessons before work on our alchohol fuel system "FlexStart"...

Feel free to ask some questions and I'll try to answer about the amazingly diverse railroad preservation movement here in Brazil.
