Hi, Over on the NGDF, we were discussing why railroads that seemed to be dedicated to one loco builder would turn to another builder. With the thread turning to SP ACs (definitely not narrow gauge), I attached the following link to my web site for a Southern Pacific memo I found in a December 1925 Official Guide. It appears to be about pay rates and I have only page 2. I hope that there is interest here in this tid bit of history. I have a PDF of a higher density scan. This is an interesting memo, but not from the SP. It is signed in "P.F" which means Perpetual Friendship, a phrase associated with the conductor's union or brotherhood. Too bad the first page isn't there. |

FYI on SP steam loco terminology MK = 2-8-2 Mikado F = 2-10-2 "Decapod" or "Deck" on the SP (never ever that other western name associated with this wheel arrangement on less enlightened railroads) F low = probably refers to smaller 2-10-2 (F-1, F-2 classes) F high = probably refers to larger 2-10-2 (F-3, F-4, F-5, F-6 classes) |
