In the 1952 EMD built 13 MRS-1 for the Army (one requirment what that the HP give 1600 HP to Main Gen. )
Did the do it by the camshaft by input/out in longer?
The Alco got the 1500 HP the 1600 HP by camshaft and the fuel injection nozzle.

Typically, internal changes in the governer are all that is needed to gain 100 horsepower. These changes are best performed on a governer test stand, but if you have a highly skilled technician on your staff they can be performed in the field. I am sure the warranty department had a say in this also, as an increase in horsepower can be detrimental to component service life.

I'm not sure if this is what was done but another way to pick up power is good old hot rodding, speed the blower up. Our 12 cylinders use 16 cylinder high elevation blower drive grear train. The exact amount of increase escapes me off the top of my head.
