Post subject:  History of N&W Office Car 200 - Lamberts Point

The Friends of 261 are looking for some information and help pertaining to former Norfolk and Western Office Car 200, the Lamberts Point. The car was donated to the organization several years ago and has been on lease to the CPR until recently, generally operating in the 2816 trainset. The car has returned to the U.S. in the last month and is undergoing some upgrading and restoration work. We are requesting assistance on two fronts.

Does anyone here know of a source of vintage light fixtures and the old style brass luggage racks (reproductions, if such a thing exists, would be fine) that either were in heavyweight cars or would be appropriate?

Can anyone help with a history of the car? It appears that the car will be utilized this year in a train that will be available for public viewing and FO 261 thought it would be appropriate to provide a more detailed history than what they currently possess on the car. Of particular interest is any unusual or interesting passengers it might have transported during its lifetime such as well known celebrities.

You can respond to the board or e-mail me at: milw261@comcast.net

Thanks for your help.

Not much drama here, but Robert Claytor used the Lamberts Point quite often behind the 611 in 1984-86 when I was involved with the steam program. The Lamberts Point was based at Norfolk. We took it with us from Roanoke to Kansas City (a 6 day trip)in 1985. It was carried behind the A-tank in front of the tool car. I was night watchman at the time and during the day Mrs. Claytor would invite me into the car to pass the time. It was in better shape than former SR 6, the office car Mr Claytor would use if around Atlanta area.
