As I was on my way through Illinois yesterday, on I-80, I saw what looked to be some kind of a passenger car (wish I could give more details, but it was under a tarp) on a flatbed truck going East. It was missing its trucks but looked like it was being transported fairly carefully. Anyone know anything about it?

It's hard to say without more info, but if it was on a flat bed or low-boy style trailer then it's very unlikely it was a main line passenger car of some kind. More likely a transit car would be transported that way due to the lighter weight and shorter length. One possibility could be a new R160 NY City subway car. Those cars are about 80% manufactured by Kawasaki in Lincoln, NE and are trucked via I80 to a Kawasaki facility in Yonkers, NY. Trucks, couplers, and underbody equipment are added in Yonkers before delivery to NYCT.

Yep, that's probably it. Looked roughly the same size and shape. I seem to remember the sides being straight, but I could be wrong on that point.

Thanks for the info! When I saw it, it really piqued my curiosity.
