To all those who operate/own a GE 65-ton or 80-ton centercab locomotive with GT-569 main generators and GE-747 traction motors, here is a question: What is the value of the DR resistor on your locomotive? The DR resistor is the smaller, porcelain, wound, 3-lug resistor that is connected to the main generators. It is a single resistor and both generators are connected to it, each one using half of the resistor. We have examined a couple of examples and they are very different, one having a value of 35 ohms and another having a value of 90 ohms. We are unsure of the wattage requirements also. We believe the resistor is used to balance the ganerators to allow them to load equally.

The locomotive in question was built in 1956 and a similar vintage unit was also examined.

We have access to GE wiring schematics but they do not show a value for this resistor.

Thanks for any help with this rehabilitation.
