Recent work by FEBT volunteers have opened up one mile of track, heavily covered by trees and brush. The opened track has been gauged and some drainage repairs made, for safe use by light speeders. Reported by Lance Meyer on the EBT List:

Quote:
For the first time since the 70's or so, two EBT speeders successfully
operated to the Rt 475 crossing today after lots of sweat, and even more
sweat on this summer-like day. Our goal has been fulfilled after four years
of working on this project.

Still some minor details to take care of, but we still have several weekends
to go.

This makes the speeder ride 1 mile, and about 15 to 20 minutes.

Huge thanks to those who have contributed to the project, most recently
Lawrence Biemiller, who made it possible for us to rent a stump grinder to
make easier work of gauging "Biemiller Curve."

This weekend we put in two long, hot days. Saturday was spent stump
grinding, and today we worked on gauging the track during record highs.

The work we have been doing is not sanctioned by the FEBT. We are working for the railroad itself.

Very cool. Are there plans to either beef up this mile for heavier equipment or open more track for speeders?
