2' 6" gauge 2-8-0, MINAZ #1390, was still in use March 1997.

Built new for this mill. Pre-revolution name, Santa Lucia. Originally number 8, named "Cayaguan." Still carries plate #8 on the front. I hope this poster has seen a photo of the engine and does not have the actual plate. There has been a huge theft problem in Cuba, with builders plates being sold off of working engines to foreign railfans. Several mills have been forced to removed their plates for safe-keeping. There are two particularly notorious individuals that have been pillaging Cuban railroad history, one American and one British.

This mill is near a major tourist area and has started running tourist trains. Someday, when it is legal to visit Cuba again, we may still be able to see and ride behind this engine.
