There are a bazillion of these things out there. While interesting, most of the time they are not really rypn type of things... you could try the parktrains yahoo group. O. Anderson |

It's not steam. The drivers float above the rails. This is a stretched C.P. Huntington. Power comes from lead truck and tank truck (which are both Blomberg outline diesel trucks). |

These are 2' gauge contraptions that were mass-produced by the Allan Herschell Company (carousel maker) in upstate New York -- and most certainly not steam. I take it this one is probably just propane-fueled like a "green" city bus. One ran at Playland in Rye Beach, NY for years. |

Why are you making it go away? It is a relevant topic in my opinion. How many of us gained our first up close view of a train at an amusement park? One of mine was the Dorney Park Flyer in Allentown PA. Please leave it up. My 2 cents, Mike Tillger |

Mike, I can't speak for the moderator, but I think I understand where he's coming from. While they are interesting, with a few exceptions Park Train aren't related to Railway Preservation. This thing is a propane fired external combustion engine powered amusement park ride, and is not historic. Many people did get interested in railroad due to a ride on a train just like this one. Lots more got involved due to model railroads, or maybe Thomas. They're all worthy and interesting subjects, but if the mods don't draw the line someplace the forum soon loses its focus. Right now this site is distinguished from most others, including mine, by being very specific to railway preservation. I think that's a good thing. As somebody else suggested, join the Park Train group on Yahoo. They love these little guys, and no doubt somebody on the group will probably have the history of this loco. I'm a member of the park trains group, and enjoy it immensely. |

Much as I like cats (even the cartoon kind) I think it may be time to say "Goodby" to "Hello Kitty". Somewhere I picked up a sheet metal box lid from a "Hello Kitty Chicken House" kit. Gonna take it out to OERM and prop it up next to one of our streetcar bodies (what traction fans call "chicken coops") and get a photo. This probably fills our "whimsey quota" for the week. |
