What locomotive was the trailing truck wheelset off of? Also, does work stop during the shop tour for safety reasons or can I take a tour during the week or something to see work in progress?

It is nice to see other types of preservation being aided by railroad preservation infrastructure. Because we operate we must maintain shops and skills which might otherwise be lost. The Liberty truck work isn't as far from railroad preservation as one might think...

The Liberty engine, designed for the Liberty truck was designed by E. J. Hall of Hall-Scott and Jessie Vincent of Packard. Hall Scott had a long history of building gas-mechanical railroad cars, along with some other rail vehicles.

At least 4 of their cars are preserved, two steel electric trailers (later motorized) for Sacramento Norther predecessor Oakland Antioch and Eastern, now at the Bay Area Electric Railroad Museum, a wood bodied gas mechanical car from 1911 for Nevada Copper Belt at California State Railroad Museum (complete but not currently operable) and the body of a 1914 steel bodied motor car, built for the Salt Lake and Utah, sold to the Nevada Copper Belt....

As usual I'm in awe of the work turned out up there. Excellent!

Are those the replacement trucks for the EBT combine that the FEBT have been raising money to replicate for years? Great to se them finally coming together after all the hard work and fundraising they did.

Kelly,
Any special reasoning behind welding the top end of the crownbolts and threading in the crown end on the 39 project that you can share? Are the long transverse stays also going to be full pen welded?
Nice job on the Liberty truck wheels!
Thanks,
Mike Tillger

Did SKF give any indication why such an out of date bearing would still be a shelf item? Obviously they can not be getting to many requests for trailing truck bearings. Passenger car bearings are the only railroad application I can think of that may cause these to still be stock items but I do not know if these are the same bearings. I suspect they are also used in something non railroad and would love to know what it is.

Like the others, I always enjoy seeing the work progess reports from the Strasburg shop.

Mr. Anderson, in regards to #37 have you guys ultrasounded the boiler yet? Just curious what kind of work you have ahead of you. Or is that a client info only? (all kidding aside).

Thanks, Steve B.

Thanks, Steve B.

We haven’t had an opportunity to do any work on #37 since its arrival, with higher priority projects demanding all of our time.

Kelly -

What is #37? Did I miss something in the thread?

As I recall from a shop tour with the RyPN gang a while back, Linn/Kelly described the three pricing levels of Strasburg shop services:
*We need it NOW (for example, UP needs a replacement bearing or valve for 844 or the like);
*We need it as soon as feasible;
*get to it when you can.

Judging from the back lot at Strasburg and TVRM, I'm guessing that anything currently in that latter category at the moment is to be though of in terms of decades.........
