Found this link via the RSHS site. Venice, FL station is to become a transit center for busses. City's website says ex-SAL track there hasn't been used since 1991. Is this true? What RR owns it today? What SAL passenger trains served the station in the pre-Amtrak era? http://www.co.sarasota.fl.us/public_works_scat/train_depot.asp bobyar2001@yahoo.com |

Wasn't Venice the last station stop on the ex-SAL branch on which SCL operated that Vulcan doodlebug up until the day Amtrak took over? That was one piece of railroad equipment which should have been saved! > Found this link via the RSHS site. Venice, > FL station is to become a transit center for > busses. Venice was built with BLE money. The line is out of service for State Road 70 to Nokomis as the bridges were unsafe. Seminole Gulf could not pay for the repair. Ringling move their car shop to Palmetto. Meksraitis@aol.com |
