Here's what I like to do first.
565's tender is in better shape then the rest of the locomotive, I have emailed the head of the locomotive shops to ask if he can have the tender moved to the main locomotive shop. When she was under a privet ownership in the mid 1970's they were converting her to burn oil, well we need to remove the oil tank from the tender using the 60ton over head crane. Then we have to replace the wooden front beam and a few small items. Plus once all that is done then there will be the painting part and lettering. I would like to get the tender done before Lackwanna Fest in September. That way at least part of the 565 would be done.

Now I need volunteers to pull this off. Please come out and support this project. The workday will be Sunday July 19, 2009 we'll meet at the Big Boy at 9:30AM.
Please let me know if you are coming.

Thank you
Leonard.
Co-Volunteer Leader.

Here's what we have to do first!
This is very recent change, so they want to take advantage of this. She has to be moved from the roundhouse to have the asbestos remove or they have to close the bays down for safety reasons. Not very good for the visitors not to see the roundhouse. A lot of other Haz-Mat rules come into play.

We need a fork lift operator, I'm only qualified through Sears Hardware Stores and that's been two years ago. We need to jack her up, so the front lead truck can be placed back under the front frame. and we need to get the front driver journals put back on with the right and left leaf springs. once that is completed she can be rolled out and the asbestos can be removed.

We need your help in Volunteering, Please come out and help? On Sunday July 19, 2009 at 9:30am. we'll meet by the Big Boy.

Thank you all,
Leonard F.Shaner, Jr.
