Post subject:  CRHS Rare Mileage trip with PRR E8s!

As part of the Conrail Historical Society's 2009 Convention in Philadelphia, PA we are hosting an excursion open to the public out of Philadelphia's historic 30th Street Station. "The Conrail Express" will be an all day round trip excursion with the Juniata Terminal E8s covering:

* Amtrak's Northeast Corridor to Perryville, MD
* Norfolk Southern's Port Road to Harrisburg, PA
* Norfolk Southern's Enola Yard
* Rockville Bridge
* Amtrak's Keystone Corridor back to Philadelphia

More detailed information can be found at the following link and there is a link there to purchase tickets if interested! You can also become a member of the society while purchasing your ticket as well. The Excursion is just ONE day worth of the convention we have every year for our society. There is much more we have planned for our convention.

Boarding for the train will be at 9:30am, and riders must arrive by 9:15 am. There will be no refunds issued for late arrivals.

Isn't Warrior Ridge a food service car, and Pennsylvania 120, the observation car?

You are correct, Jim. The WR is a parlor car and the Penna 120 is the observation. The special tickets are for the Parlor car "Warrior Ridge". If we sell enough tickets for that, we may also add the Kichi Gammi Club as a second private car. We wanted to get a dome too, but those are hard to get ahold of.

ConRail has run this trip in the 1990s with their full dome car. They used the Shellpot Branch to get around Wilmington, Del. passenger station, and the Reading's Lebanon Valley Branch and Old Main Line and the Junction RR to get around the catenary on the PRR's Main Line. Now, it will also be necessary to use the High Line and a reverse move to get to Track 1 at 30th St. Of course, the economic problem with a dome car is the cost of getting it to and from Philadelphia. East of Harrisburg, that would have to be in freight trains or more charter passenger trains on freight railroads.
Where is ConRail's dome car? That could be the most practical choice, if they still have it, as there could be a business reason to make it be in Philadelphia at the right time.

NS 24 Delaware, former Conrail 55, AutoTrain 514, originally AT&SF 552, still in NS business train service at last report............
