Any one have pics of Southen Pacific 4449 in Havre Montana with Great Northern 2584?

I know that there was supposed to be a layover day on July 6 but I have not seen any posted photos yet.

2584 is one of my favorite engines and I hope that someday, BNSF will allow her to be restored to operating condition. It probably will never happen but a man can always dream. I knew one of the firemen that operated this engine. Henry Norton.

This isn't pretty, but it was the best I got.

Thanks Fitz.

That is a great photo. I guess the one that can be taken in October with them side by side on the return trip will really be something to see.

They are about the same size. Both have 80 inch drivers.

I hope the old girl gets a coat of paint by then! J.D. is right, 2584 is a gorgeous 4-8-4 (not that I can think of an ugly one). But the Montana winters are hell on paint!

US and Canadian railroads should make an effort to get back to the "classic" paint schemes and logos, where applicable. I've often thought CNR and CPR should move in that direction again. With all the US mergers, I guess it's a moot point, but the photos above show distinctly what has been lost.

Can anyone tell us of #2584's condition when they moved her back in the 90's from her original spot next to the Park Hotel to the Depot? Did they do all the prep work to move her?

Although Montana's winters might be hard on paint, things don't rust as bad as they do in the south. I spent 18 winters in Montana. Again, it would be nice to see her painted before the SP4449 comes back in October. It would also be nice to have her headlight shining for the event too if that is possible. I have been told that they blow her 7 note whistle on air from time to time.

Just a few more thoughts about my favorite locomotive.

BTW, posting that photo triggered hazy memories--A couple of railfans named McCormack and Mangels got into the cab of 2584 with permission. We had our concession stands set up right in front of the engine and were startled to hear the bell ringing, then spotted those fans.

How long did the 4449 have to wait for the Second Section to pass?

Anyone get a photo of Doyle in 2584's Cab?

That would be cool to see too.

Thanks,
