Hello.

I am working on a book about my hometown of Logansport, Indiana, which used to own the #13 which was the centerpiece of the Iron Horse Festival.

I stopped by OCSteam in the Spring to take photos and have since gone back to their Web site to verify the train's history and see if there are plans to restore it. But it appears that the site has been taken down.

Does anyone have details on the #13 (a timeline from it's construction to today)? And who now owns it (I heard that Jacobson has sold his interest in OCSteam. Also, does anyone know what the plans are for it (will it be restored, sold, used for parts)?

Thanks for your help!

Jerry sold the Ohio Central, but he did not sell his steam locomotive collection. In fact he is building a 15 stall roundhouse near Sugar Creek to store and restore them. I'm assuming he must have worked out some sort of running rights agreement with the Genesee & Wyoming when he sold the railroad to them.

There was a nice soft cover book "Buffalo Creek & Gauley" by William E. Warden, published in 1991 and now out of print. If you can find a copy, there are a number of pictures of #13 before, during, and after its life at the BC&G.

Someplace, I have photos of ex-BC&G 13 in steam at one of the Logansport steam festivals, circa mid-1980s.

If you are authoring a book regarding Logansport, you should consider including coverage of ex-Clinchfield 1, 4-6-0, which was built in Logansport in 1882. I rode behind this locomotive twice in the late 1970s when she was occasionally operated on the Clinchfield Railroad out of Erwin, Tennessee.

ex-Clinchfield 1 is now at the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum, Baltimore, Maryland. She hasn't been steamed in years.

Kevin -

I have wondered the same thing about 2-8-0 number 13. Especially since another Consolidation (LS&I #33) was restored by the OC shops. Perhaps the future for number 13 as an operable engine is cloudy at best.
