Hey guys...I know that back in the day, many of the railroads had their own signature whistles, and I was hoping you guys could help me in gathering the note sequences for as many different railroads as possible. The only ones I know are...

Pennsylvania Railroad:
E-G-B (E-minor Triad) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5rsP3gbkBw

That's it..lol. I have heard other whistles, but would like to know what notes they are comprised of. I would just like to know what sequence roads like Lehigh Valley, D&H, NYC, Virginian, Frisco, C&O, and other Eastern lines used.

Thanks for any help!

There are entire websites and Yahoo groups devoted to such topics.

But as a short aside, MOST steam whistles of all kinds were manufactured by equipment makers that also made other steam equipment such as gauges, injectors, etc.: Crosby, Nathan, Lunkenheimer, Hancock, etc. Railroads rarely made their own whistles, with the PRR and N&W being two exceptions--and even N&W used stock equipment as well.

The definitive book on the subject is "The Engine's Moan" by Edward Fagen.

Just got in from a fairly large steam traction engine show. There was a Baker engine there with a PRR K4 whistle, which really sounded nice. I thought it sounded more like major chord, not a minor one, but that's only my opinion.
