It seems that steam locomotives were dumped offshore to prevent erosion. Now they are dredging them up. There seems to be most of a locomotive and a lot of parts and someone is trying to make something out of them. Tom, We're restoring a Baldwin 2-6-2 here in Wellington New Zealand that was dumped for river protection in the South Island. Have a look at some photos of the work we're doing at http://www.flickr.com/photos/18854674@N04/sets/72157606699342304/. This engine is being worked on by a small team of younger guys and the tender chassis is almost complete. Our website is http://www.wmrt.org.nz but the site is in need of an update. Thanks for the information and best of everything toward your efforts. I think you Kiwi are the only ones I've ever heard of so ambitious with steam to pull them out of a riverbank or seabed. |
