Post subject:  Downeast Scenic Railway - More good news!

According to this morning's Bangor Daily News, the former MEC line in Ellsworth , felt the rumble of a locomotive again! The Downeast Scenic Railway operated one of its former B&ML 70 tonners, a flat car, and caboose, over 2.5 miles of restored trackage this past weekend. The line will eventually operate between Washington Junction and Green Lake, Maine.

Unfortunately, the state is continuing to tear up the rest of the former Calais, Maine branch as a rails-to-trails project. At the least (very least) this is leveling the old road bed, but nobody expects the track to ever be replaced.
