I think she was slated for restoration at one time. A couple of recent photos showing the old girl has been a bit neglected. There is mention of display in a museum. Let's hope for the best. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 492&nseq=0 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 220&nseq=1 |

Just a bit of clarification; 503 was cosmetically restored (i.e. painted) a few years back. There is a bit of rust showing through in places and bubbling the paint in others. Of course, there is also the graffiti that has sprung up sometime in the past year. This lineup is located a few hundred yards east of the old CPR Station which is now a museum, and a pretty nice one at that. Work on the waterfront park has progressed since we were there last year, but not to the point where they are ready to move 503 to it's final resting place west of the museum. I feel once the move has been made it will be fairly safe, being much more visible and in all likelyhood protected by lighting and security cameras. Because of the lack of visibility from public streets, the rest of the line-up has been really badly trashed. The partial TEE trainset has had all the windows smashed, the interior torn up and the usual vulgarization by "urban artists". Even with the windows boarded up in a feeble attempt to keep the vandals out they still manage to get in. Notice in the second picture the doors have been pried open and a ladder - probably used to do the prying - is lying on the ground beside. The CPR caboose isn't much better off either. There was also an FP7 A unit at the caboose end of the line but this has been removed. The optomist in me hopes that it is now somewhere in the ONTC (ONR) shop complex or yards for restoration but I do not have any solid information on that. The unit that I saw from the hill where the second pic was taken (which I originally thought to be ONR FP7 1501 could very well have been an ex-FB unit as the ONR has converted several of those for use as HEP units on their passenger trains. It was hard to tell from the angle I was looking. I'm hoping that someone who knows will share the information that I'm missing. Wayne D. Shaw |

It was just too far gone. Photo credit to you Wayne..... http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 772&nseq=0 |

That just ruined my day, but thanks for the update regardless. I'm surprised they didn't do the TEE cars while they were at it considering they appeared to be in just as rough condition. What a shame, all around! Wayne |

I've been informed that FP7s 2000 and 2001 were also scrapped. In this shot of 2000 taken less than 3 years ago it doesn't appear to be in too bad shape, so that came as a surprise (and disappointment!). http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=178532 Also, here's a closer view of the old TEE equipment for those interested: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=294029 |

Thanks for posting Wayne. Who is TEE Classics? Maybe the reason the TEE stuff was not cut up was it is not owned by the RR anymore? |

Tom, it seems TEE Classics is the Swiss group dedicated to the preservation of TEE equipment with the eventual goal of restoring a train to service as the Orient Express in Switzerland. They've already repatriated some of the equipment, I guess funds ran low. They have a website but I can't read the language. This website explains it a bit better, in English: http://uwacadweb.uwyo.edu/RGodby/Trains/northlander.htm If that one doesn't work for you, try this: http://www.northlander.de/english/gal-e.htm |

Apparently, from what we were told, all the equipment, except #503 will be scrapped. We were actually looking to acquire the CP caboose, and talked to the board about it. All was going fine, until one board member got quite snippy with us, and demanded that we give them $10000 or it'll be scrapped. If we weren't going to give them $10000, then don't ever contact us again!! Really nice. The 503 is slated to move over to the station as part of the park redevelopment, and ONR is supposed to provide a rebuilt F unit to go along with it. We were told the Tee train & caboose were supposed to have been scrapped last year, but I guess so far they only did the F. It's just a hangout for kids right now, and oddly enough, they were even partying in the tender tank, as apparently there is a hole underneath that they can get into.
