6167 News After the initial cleanup from sandblasting, volunteers from the Restoration Committee went down to the locomotive on July 31 and blasted the engine with compressed air using a rented diesel air compressor. This resulted in almost another 300 lbs of rust and sand being cleaned off the locomotive. A welder will be brought in to repair various cracks, holes and broken parts found after the engine was sandblasted. He will likely repair the hole on the right side of the cab as well. Painting is set to begin soon in the form of a Sherwin-Williams product described to me as a 3 stage primer and top coat in Midnight Black. I'm told that Sherwin-Williams got their engineering dept involved, and that this product is the same specs as paint used for steel bridges, with great anti-corrosion and UV resistant properties, and is quite expensive. The work will be performed by a team of 4 or 5 professional painters. The locomotive requires a lot of work to bring it back to its former glory, and Donations to help continue this work would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to make a donation to the Restoration Committee, click here for instructions. Website Updates I've worked hard over the last few days to catch up on the backlog of stuff I've been wanting to post about all the work done to 6167 and 6213 this summer, so here it is, divided amongst 15 new pages containing no less than 129 photos (a number of which have been contributed by Lionel Levitt). First up, I'm pleased to present a multipart series on the moving of 6213: Overview and Notes Part 1: Engine Truck, Trailing Truck, and Tender Truck Journals Part 2: Side Rods, Main Rods and Valve Gear Part 3: Engine-Tender Connections Part 4: Driving Wheel Journals, Driving Boxes And Cellars Part 5: Loading The Engine And Tender Part 6: Moving And Unloading The Engine And Tender Conclusion These pages are accompanied by articles on Floating-Bushing and Crown Bearing Driving Boxes, and Cellars, Franklin Type E-1 Radial Buffer, Drawbar and Safety Bar on 6167 and 6213, and Barco Flexible Joints. As for 6167, I have 3 new journal entries: July 17, 2009 - Post-sandblasting Inspection July 10, 2009 - Sandblasting In Progress June 15, 2009 - Preparing 6167 For Sandblasting Last but not least is my awesome interactive explanation of 6167's cab, entitled: Inside 6167's Cab: An Interactive Guide To All Controls. |

This always pleases me. I love Canadian steam, and the 6167 was a significant player in saying goodbye to the breed. I only wish 6218 had fared as well. I am in hopes that your investment can be protected with a shed and , perhaps, a fence. Your efforts are most appreciated. |

Joe, I can't get those 3 links for 6167 to work properly (after sandblast inspection etc) can you check on them for me? |

Looks good. Beware, you will now forever find sand for the rest of that engines life in every little nook and cranny, tapped or not. |

I fixed the links. Well, we had to make some effort at keeping sand out of bearings and such (although I have no idea if it did anything) |
