| Post subject: | FEBT Rockhill work session August 15-16, 2009 |
The next FEBT Rockhill work session of 2009 will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 15-16, 2009. We will work from 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and from 9 am to 4 pm Sunday. We'll meet at the Rockhill shops at 9 am. Remember there is a twilight train Saturday evening at 6:30 ! MEALS Breakfast both days and dinner will be available at the Iron Rail B&B, across the street from the depot. Lunch will be offered by RTY on both Saturday and Sunday. Please RSVP to me by Thursday evening, August 13, at 10 p.m. if you plan to join us for any of these meals. WEATHER The current forecast is for highs in the low 80s. Visit http://www.accuweather.com and check the Rockhill zip code, 17249, for the latest weather as we approach the date. COMBINE 14 The car crew will continue the installation of the replacement timbers under the west baggage doors. We will be fitting and drilling in preparation for gluing the new frame members. We hope to glue a number of the members this weekend. Lee Rainey will lead this project. STEEL CREW The steel crew will be working on the trucks and draft gear, and a variety of other projects around the yard. Steve Jacobs will lead this project. BOILER HOUSE The Boiler Rats have 30 feet of additional roof framing they expect to finish this session, followed by the installation of new roof over the stationary steam engine. They also will be preparing the area around the engine for its official debut in the tours at the Fall Spectacular. Jim Bacon will lead this crew. MAIN SHOPS The crew will jack the Boiler Shop post an additional 1/2" and then transport the new sill to the Boiler Shop. (We’ll need some extra folks to pitch in to move some of these timbers.) The they will cut the sill lap seams and repair the post base with an oak block and epoxy filler. After applying epoxy to the sill lap seams and installing the new sill section, they will jack the post down onto the new sill and begin installation of siding. The crew will also be working on cleaning and lubricating the power roll, which involves oiling the cleaned teeth, cleaning the pulley faces, evaluating fittings and cleaning and conditioning the belts. Finally, the crew expects to complete and install the last sashes for the west wall of the Boiler Shop. Chris Coleman will lead this project. GROUND RULES To take part you must be 18 and a member of the FEBT (or join the FEBT at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly. Last-minute walk-ons are always welcome at our sessions, but if possible, drop me an email in advance to let me know that you are coming. It helps with the planning. See you there!
