We ordered a couple right out of McMaster-Carr's catalog.

Mcmaster probably buys from Advance to resell.

I don't know about anyone else, but I've found McMaster Carr to be a godsend. None of the industrial supply houses around here have much of an inventory anymore, so I just got to McMaster for most of what we need. I just placed an order a couple hours ago for some parts for one of our cranes. With their warehouse about 50 miles from here the package will be on my porch by lunchtime. Very convenient.

I would suspect that it is cheaper at $50.00 a handle, plus shipping, to buy the handles, instead of having an employee make them. Having an employee(s) work on such a project takes them away from other projects, and I'm sure it's a trade off. Buy what you can if it is reasonable, so you can best use the shop work force.

McMasters' initial fill rate on orders as consistently close to 100 percent as one could imagine.

Their 'secret' is this: The UPS trailer with outbound shipments is not dispatched to UPS until 11 pm. Conceivably, one could place an order at 8 pm (as I have done) and receive the item the next morning.

Also, you might try:
O P Link Handle Co Inc ( American Handle Co)
403 S Main St
Salem, IN 47167
Phone: (812) 883-2981
Don't believe they have a web site, and I don't have a recent product list. We have obtained spike mall, axe, pick handles and I believe car mover and 50 ton jack handles from them some years ago.

I gotta tell you, this is what I love about this site! One organization helping another! This information just isn't found anywhere else on the internet.

Later!
