On a recent western trip, I found myself in the Canadian Pacific Shop in the Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Alberta. Part of the store dressing, among the tee-shirts and posters, were two locomotive bells. One was stamped 3549. Assuming they were CP in origin, can someone tell me the dates, wheel arrangement and disposition of this engine? |

3549 was a 2-8-0. Assuming 3522, which still survives, is a sister engine, 3549 was a Baldwin. |

I once read about a CPR 2-8-0 that went into a lake out there. Was it ever recovered, is there reason to think it might be recovered? |

According to J.F. Garden's book "The Crow and the Kettle", 2-8-0 #3512, a snow plow and several freight cars slipped off a barge into Slocan Lake in December of 1946. I also recall reading elsewhere that CPR made some attempts to locate the equipment by gave up due to the depth of the lake. Hope this helps MNowell |

Today's technology would make location relatively easy. Recovery? Ah, something else. If the locomotive is in cold, fresh water, it might be worth a look and some investment. Sunken treasure can not help but capture the imagination. |

Maybe a call to the Producers might bring some interest in attempting a recovery. Les |
