Back on August 12th. 2008 a Mr Dave Griner posted a reply on a topic similar to the above, and made reference to the Welding Handbook AWS 1942 edition, pages 1405 thro' 1408 showing details of the PRR fabricated cylinders. If he or anyone else who has access to that publication, I would like to have a copy of the relevant pages.
My interest is as the Project Engineer for the Brighton Atlantic Project at present under construction at the Bluebell Railway in Sussex, England. As was discussed at the time, we are using fabrications for our cylinders. I believe ours will be the first made by this method where the cylinders are outside the frames and the piston valves are between the frames.
All information on this subject is of interest to us here.
For your interest the website is

The Pennsylvania Railroad made fabricated cylinders for their K4 class Pacifics. The Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum has a copy of that blueprint with their collection of prints for the 1361. Perhaps you could obtain a copy of the print from them or the State of Pennsylvania archives.

Australian 38XX class express locomotives used fabricated cylinders and saddles. 2 either are running or have in the very recent past. They were built much more recently than the K4s and probably a more complete document trail concerning such things as fit up, welding and stress relieving is to be had from down under.
