Location of Wanamie No. 4

So we know now where Wanamie No. 9 ended up (see "Mystery 0-4-0T in Michigan" post below). Has anyone found out what happened to her sister, No. 4? I don't think it was ever converted to hydraulic drive for service at the Fiesta Texas amusement park, as has been stated before. That locomotive was a rather large Henschel 0-4-0T, the sister of which is currently running at the Midwest Central.

The Midwest Central (Shop Services) rebuilt both a Vulcan as well as the Henschel into dismals for the Fiesta Texas park. Not sure if its pedigree, though.

The #601 in the picture is listed by Wes Barris as a Baldwin. Somewhere in my archives I have a detailed description of #4's conversion but if #601 is a Baldwin and the other is - we know - the Henschel, is there a 3rd at Fiesta, TX?

Looks like a Wanamie smoke box door and the domes looks similar as well. Both Wanamie engines at NJMT were Vulcans with one in much better shape than the other. Their Wanamie numbers were 4 and 9 from what I can see in the old rosters of NJMT equipment.

So, looks like both have been located.

601 certainly does appear to be the former Wanamie No. 4 when you compare the smokebox front, firebox, drivers, and domes (I found the two photos below with Google Images). I was unaware that Shop Services had rebuilt anything but the afformentioined Henschel 0-4-0T for Fiesta Texas. I show that Wanamie No. 4 and 9 were aquired by Shop Services in 1990 and 1991; Fiesta Texas opened in '92, so the dates jive with 601 being rebuilt out of No. 4.

As to what date they were sold, they had been sold two or three times by NJMT before someone actually came and took them. First attempt had to be the late 1970s I'd guess, then when they were not picked up for several years they were sold again. There may have even been a third go around, I don't recall.

Its good to know that they are both still around in one form or another.

I too, have listed three engines at Fiesta Texas. However, during my visit to the park, I found the Henschel operational; with what I am guessing is Wanamie #4 and it's trainset stored out in the open at the engine shed. I did not see a third trainset.

I did not have my camera ready, so I could not get a picture of #4. Also, the engine house is not normally accessible to the public; on a future visit, I will try to gain access to the engine house on a future visit (but probably won't be able to.)
