Not to make this a political discussion here, but a lot of that premium priced "green" power is a load of crap if you ask me. Often they prove to be systems made up by real shysters who are inventing virtual products to sell. Many times they are selling you a plain old piece of symbolic paper! If you want you can read up on it elsewhere.

If the railroad wants to do this cause they think it is a good thing to do so be it, however it seems unfair that they would be forced to buy some one else's product simply because they are burning coal in a steam locomotive and emitting some level of CO2. I sure hope they don't soon get forced to retrofit an ugly eyesore of a baghouse/scrubber car in front of their locomotives!

I'm sure an ashpit where no one can see the locomotives being cleaned will help the environment. This problem solver shows how "not in my backyard" is the true intention of this program. But that is my opinion.

Durango is not the gritty old narrow gauge town it was decades ago. Times have changed and so have the residents and what they are willing to accept. Steam operators have to adapt or perish. It's important to note the many steam operations are becoming less rural and suburban sprawl continues. Don't be shocked when it comes to a railroad near you.

I'll project, the day will come when diesel traction hauls the service trains and steam is kept for special events, possibly even originating from Silverton.

If there was a ready supply of 3 foot gauge road diesels, there would already be one or more on the railroad today.
