An exhibit of photographs by O. Winston Link is featured at the Lancaster Museum of Art, 135 N. Lime St., Lancaster, through Sept. 27. The museum is free and is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4. This is a great opportunity to view some of Link's breathtaking portraits of N&W steam. Note: Lancaster is served by a dozen daily Amtrak trains.

Is this a traveling exhibit? I happened to notice a Link exhibit setup in downtown Owosso during Trainfest, but unfortunately we ran out of time that weekend and was unable to stop in and see the exhibit.

Wayne,
This looks like a good venue. Now if we could only get Winston Link's America back.......it certainly appears we are not moving toward it.

Another Lancaster County event to scope is the movement of the (2) 510 ton steam generators enroute to TMI by the end of this month (by road not rail). I saw a comment on the news article of this equipment move. The chap said, you can stand and watch these units go by and see what America once was. The fact that these gens had to be sourced from France not domestically is a sign of where we are in manufacturing. Why not Westinghouse in Pittsburgh or even locally in …York city? PCC (Precision Custom Components) in York. I toured their facility, they have a 20 ft dia vertical boring mill, not to mention they can rebuild their own machine tools…..which is a rare art in itself. They may be crane limited at 350 tons but I would think they could have bid it.

At least the N&W kept steam alive longer than most class I’s, which is recorded in all its glory in Winston’s photos. I first appreciated his work in one of his books I obtained…Steam Steel and Stars.

Regards,
Randy
