Post subject:  Eureka's Steering Tiller

The Northwestern Pacific Railroad steam passenger ferry is the largest wooden merchant ship in the world. She is on display at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.

Between the time she was retired by the railroad in 1957 and the time she was placed on display she was hit by brass theves, who made off with most of her Pilot House brass.

I have been looking for 15 years for a picture of the missing equipment. The negative for just the picture I need turned up this past weekend in a private collection.. When I get a print, I'll see about getting it posted here. I am one happy museum Curator! So the moral is NEVER SAY NEVER!! It, whatever it is, is out there somewhere. Ted
