Saw this sweet little EMD come through on Railpictures. I did a quick google search and it seems the Soo Line only had one SW-1. If this is the real one she was built in 1939. I could not find out who owns her or if she is operable. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 64&nseq=31 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 63&nseq=32 |

She is indeed the real thing, and is now owned by Independent Locomotive Leasing Services (ILSX). Looked like I picked the wrong week to mark to a yard job...I would have taken a road train to Glenwood this afternoon! Jeff Terry |

That looks like the critter all right, complete with the cover over the radiator shutter operating mechanism. The paint scheme they chose to restore the unit to is the as-delivered 1939 scheme. This unit spent most of it's life in Oshkosh, WI. According to the Unofficial Soo Line Diesel Roster web site: http://sooline.dieselrosters.com/ This unit was retired in 1977, sold to Great Lakes Coal & Dock #320, then Great Western Dock & Terminal #320. I don't have any info after that. Good to see she still exists, pretty much unmodified. |
