| Post subject: | Taber Lackawanna Video -Appearances by 426, 952 & 3001 |
Just finished viewing my DVD of DL&W films compiled by Thomas Taber. The DVD is of films shot primarily in the 1930's and 1940's. Ironically, the three of four most significant pieces of surviving Lackawanna equipment make appearances. DL&W 426 is shown as part of a new equipment special from 1935. (Now at Scranton) DL&W 3001 (now at IRM) is shown pulling a cabless DL&W 952 (discussed extensively, now at St. Louis) as it was being readied for World's Fair in late 1930's. Shots of Tobyhanna and Scranton, concludes with extensive shots of "Pocono" #1629 ending with it pulling into Scranton Station (now Radisson Station). Unfortunately, all the 1600's were melted down. I think a whistle and a bell survive. One surprise, shots of Lackawanna engineers show them wearing not the "traditional" hickory stripe engineer's hat, but a hat with a finished bill like a conductors' only the shape resembled a police hat. |
