Hey bored this weekend. Check out Steamtown's Railfest. We are going to have some of the parts for DL&W on display around the engine to show the public the work that's been done. Hope you can make it.

Looks like this weekend is going to be a lot of fun. An AB set of NS F Units just rolled in, the CNJ units are here, lots of DL stuff, a CP Rail AC unit, and much more. Amtrak due in later today. 2317 and 3254 are fired up, I helped shuttle in some WWII vehicles into the yard this morning and the NKP sleeper "City of Lima is being shuttled about by a NKP Geep.

If anyone comes by this weekend, be sure and stop by the Museum Store, I'll be signing copies of my book "Scranton Railroads" 11-2 both days.

I just got in from Scranton and all I can say is that I had a blast! Len and I put a few of the larger pieces that have been recently sandblasted around the DL&W 565 so check it out if you can! We set up a pallet on the engineer's side of the locomotive with a before and after piece to show the difference. I have to say, the run by at Moscow with the 3254 was awesome! Whoever was at the throttle really knew how to put on a show! If you can make it tomorrow, GO! You won't regret it.

Ohio River and the Amtrak cars were on a special Amtrak train from Steamtown to Sunnyside that departed Scranton about 8:00 a.m. Labor Day, Monday 9/7/9 via the old DL&W and D&H. Beyond Albany, the cars were hauled by a regular Amtrak train, #64.

Here are just two photos of Friday's activity in arrivals and setting things in place. I will upload more photos soon.

It was a very good weekend. Seems like everyone was ready for a good time, and they got it in spades. Both Moscow trains had 360-plus riders. Nearly all Scranton Limited trains were full, and the Caboose experience was enjoyed by a lot of adults and children. The dancing, the band and the theater performances added a lot to the 1940s theme, along with the military vehicles and the antique cars by the City of Lima.

What is also neat to hear is that the Reading & Northern ran their 425 both days with a capacity crowd. So, it proves that one event doesn't "steal" attendance from another.

Sunday.
The caboose experience train, with Nickel Plate GP9, Pennsylvania RR boxcar and Lackawanna caboose, added action to the two steam trips each day of the fest. Views from inside and outside the caboose.

The last hour or so of the Fest featured the visitors backing out, and getting ready for a long journey home.
