I thought that the B&ML was toast after the '07 season. Imagine my surprise to see them running a shuttle train from Thorndike to the Common Groound Fair this weekend. GE 70 ton with three coaches and open car. One stainless steel lettered for Maine Central. Is there a resurrection at hand?

I'm not certain, but the trains were probably being operated by the town of Burnham, which bought two of the 70 tonners and few coaches for short scenic passenger runs. B&ML needs serious track work before she'll be able haul the kinds of trains we'd all love to see return. Stimulus money, where art thou now?

The right-of-way is owned by the State of Maine, so there's no immediate danger of the rails north of Belfast being removed. Within Belfast city limits, it was sold for development, which included the turntable, enginehouse, etc.

Randy is correct; the town of Burnham, not Brooks.
State of Maine has torn up most of the old Calais branch of the MEC, so I wouldn't be too certain about the longevity of the B&ML.
