We just completed restoring one here at the Elgin County Railway Museum in St. Thomas, Ontario. Externally we restored it to original. Internally we've converted it to a coach for use during Day Out With Thomas.

Saw this one come through and thought it was interesting. There were a lot of troop cars kicking around in the early days of tourist railroading. Many have been converted into other configurations, cut up, or left to rot. It's nice to see one restored. I agree, it would be great to recreate a troop train somewhere. It's interesting to note that the WWII reenactors are just as "older and fatter" as us Civil War reenactors.........:) |
