Erie Lackawanna Diner 741, currently undergoing restoration by ELDCPS, was featured for the first time on NBC's "The Office".

In 2005, the Society commissioned painter Christopher Barbieri to depict Diner 741. He produced a fantastic watercolor of the diner at Hoboken, waiting in the consist of the Lake Cities for departure. The painting was reproduced as a lithograph, "Memories of Erie Lackawanna Dining Service", and one of these lithos now hangs on the office wall of character Jim Halpert on "The Office".

Congrats, especially for getting the painting hung in the office of one of the less "quirky" characters!

As someone from the Scranton area I can tell you the show gets Scranton right, sometimes a little too right....

I was wondering what painting that was.

Cool!

I noticed that as well the other night. Thanks for posting that I wouldn't have known otherwise.

It was also recently revealed on "The Office" that characters Toby and Dwight are interested in trains!

Toby: “You’re into trains?”

Dwight: ” Have been my whole life. I’m rebuilding a turn-of-the-century steam engine in my slaughter house.”

Toby: “That’s so cool! Wow I’d love to take a look at that.”

Dwight: “Yeah it’s just a run of the mill slaughter house but sure, anytime.”

Toby: “Well, you know, because of the trains.”

So, the props department just happened to find that picture?

I think there's a really good story here.

The last few years the Scranton Chamber of Commerce has collected items that are given to the producers of "The Office" for them to potentially use on the show. We submitted the litho along with several other items. We had no idea our item would be used and only when we saw it on the show did we know that we made it onto the small screen.

As a follow up we have been posting the the various Office blogs point out the litho and where the fans can buy it if they want.
