While the floor of the cab was being repaired, we dicovered one of the few remaining remnants of 6167's booster engine mounted on one of the supports for the cab floor, the timing resoivor.

You guys are doing a first class restoration job on the old girl! I am going to have to make a trip up that way to see her, once she's finished.
She must be put under a weather shed or inside some protection once completed. Striking 6218 out, that will leave three of the class that might be operational once again.
Other than writing a check, what can we do to help get her under cover? How can we get the city to act on this?

Writing a cheque is the best thing I can think of.

Some of us are wondering if the city can be persuaded to incorperate 6167 into their fabled Transportation center that they wish to build on that spot, by building it around the locomotive thus sheltering it.

Also, bear in mind that this project has had its fair share of short comings and weirdness.

Interesting picture Joe. Looks like your floor was in pretty good shape really. I hate to think what we will find when we pull the wood planks up?!

Well most of the steel floor is being replaced. It (and espicially the wood) was pretty rotted out

Richard,
We are plodding along and making steady progress... Trying to get things sealed up before winter.

Joe, What arrangment do you have where the wood meets the coal doors? I have hears stories of the deck boards running up to the coal doors and then some sort of trapdoor arrangement covering the floor of the vestibule?

On 6167 and 6213 for example, there is a large metal plate attached to the tender on a hinge that channels the coal from the coal gates to the floor of the cab.

On 6167, there are the four main coal gates, and a small door maybe 6' or so high thats mounted on a hinge on one side of the door and lifts up. I haven't seen this on 6213, but I haven't really looked either.

Look at the first 2 pictures on this page:

If you look just below the 4 big coal gates, you can see the smaller plate that lifts up. In the first picture, you can see the plate that sits in the vestibule. Mind you its been broken off its hinges and is sitting in the stoker trough.

Also, if you look at the second photo, you can see the hook that holds the plate below the coal gates, next to the try-cocks in the vestibule.
