We had talked briefly about random or preemptive drug testing for railway museum volunteers. Well it turns out there's a word for that, and the word is "suspicionless". Here's a Time article that discusses the contemplation of drug testing for teachers. http://www.time.com/time/health/article ... 40,00.html One one hand, teacher testing makes sense, because teaching is a "blue collar" profession, and the history of drug testing in America is that we target blue collar workers. And gosh, they are near kids! On the other hand, drug tests aren't free, do you lay off a teacher to free up funds for drug testing? It stands to examine the actual likelihood of teacher drug use. Which the government did: http://www.oas.samhsa.gov/work2k7/work.pdf Which brings us to railway preservation. Skip to Page 23 of that report. Teachers are the third least likely profession to engage in illegal drug use. The only people LESS likely to do drugs ... are railway preservationists. And cops/firemen. Turn the page, they also have charts for heavy alcohol use. Our lot is dead last, right next to teachers. Cops, it seems, leap greatly upwards when it comes to alcohol use. So, testing our kind is even stupider than testing teachers. |

But what if your volunteer works full time for the construction industry (with high illicit drug use)? |
