This story came through on my rss feed from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. http://www.preservationnation.org/magaz ... -1906.html The story says the Northeastern New York Railroad Preservation Group Inc is restoring the station. A quick google search turned up this website last updated in 1996. http://www.rpi.edu/dept/llc/webclass/su ... erail.html I hope they can pull it off. In this age I am surprised that there is not an up-to-date website. |

It has looked like it was near-collapse for the past few years. There's still tourist potential on the Slate Picker route. Let's hope passenger trains return one day on the BKRR. Rob Photo on http://ny.existingstations.com/ is from 1996. It didn't look great then!

It's also interesting to note that the preservation non-profit owns the Battenkill's route, which is used for an (increasing) freight business. Rob |

We shoot the PBS cooking series "Cook's Country" about 5 miles away in a small town in Vermont, and spend a few evenings per week at the Salem Tavern watching baseball over beers. I've been eyeing this depot's disintegration for a few years now and pitched this story to my contact at Preservation Magazine... hope it helps. Stephen PS - There used to be some "Battenkill Rambler" coaches parked near the depot...anyone know where they went? |

Hi It sounds like have a great career. There's something so cool about getting to spend time in a small town - especially when beers and baseball are involved. The coaches were moved over to Greenwhich. The new Battenkill management apparently wanted them by the office. There had been vandalism at Salem and the town had wanted them moved awhile ago. The BKRR is a heck of a road. The new leadership has both RS-3's back running, reopened interchange with the B&M and increased the number of operating days. Not a museum, but a working shortline with all the charm of a Bebee/Clegg classic. Rob |

The passenger cars were moved to Greenwich NY to a location with more secure storage. The move was handled by the Battenkill RR RS-3 605 which had recently been activated aftter being out of service for some time. Zog DFS Bronx NY |
