i've said it before... as a daily reader and an occassional poster to RyPN, what i appreciate most is the community. I would refer the anonymous poster below to the number one rule of the community which can be found under the "Guidelines and Rules" above. Rules Please use your real name, no screen names, no anonymous posts. i would call on the moderator to delete anonymous postings and postings by 'screen names without email addresses'. just an opinion.. sc 'doc' lewis Heber Valley Railroad utweyesguy@aol.com |

I agree. Everyone's email is right there with their post. If you have information to share that may compromise your relationships, make your comments via email directly to the posting party and not anonymously on Interchange. Frankly, I'm surprised (and a bit disappointed) that the "name withheld" post remains. wyld@sbcglobal.net |

Frankly, I'm > surprised (and a bit disappointed) that the > "name withheld" post remains. Genrally, we try to run the Interchange hands off. As long as people behave themselves, within reason, we'll stay out of the way even if they don't obey the letter of the law, or in this case the posting guidelines. A while back I offered a couple of alternatives to the current format, which ranged from leave it as is to making the board a moderated board, where people couldn't post anything without it being reviewed first. An inbetween option was to have an unmoderated board but require the users to register and identify (and screen names would be permitted in that scenario) before they could post. Initial feedback leaned towards a moderated format, but afterwards the responses were heavily in favor of leaving it the way it is, I would estimate by more than two to one in the final tally. I guess I could change the guidelines to agree with the de facto rules, but I like to have the rules to enforce when the situation dictates. I know it's, uh, er, hypocritical (can't think of a better word), but the Interchange seems to work pretty well most of the time, and I don't want to tinker with the chemistry too much. As for the "name withheld" post, I don't like these either but the poster didn't personally attack anybody or use abusive or foul langauge. And, if what they were saying isn't true I would hope more knowledgeable persons than myself would challenge it, or bring it to my attention offline. One good example of how the board ideally self moderates was the thread about the Terlyn water treatment. I thought some very good and useful information came out of that thread. Regardless, moderating the Interchange is not my favorite thing in the world to do. Railway Preservation News hkading@rypn.org |

Thank You HK! There is a thin line between providing accurate information and BS! Since most of us are not personally acquainted with most of us (?) the value of information must be taken with a grain of salt. I am here to learn and help where I can. I have both learned, been helped and hope I have provided useful information. One thing I have noticed is that the objectionable posts have few or no answers leading me to believe that the "group" is almost self-moderating. lamontdc@adelphia.net |
