The Electron flume and power plant is near Mt. Rainier, and was built around 1900. It hugs the hillside above the Puyallup River for 10 miles, and is still in operation. Up to about 1970 the main way for access was a long incline RR as steep as 60%. The school kids that lived at the top, rode it every day. I photographed it back in 1969 and have always been fascinated by the operation, which is one of the crookedest railroads ever built.

I just discovered that there is a video of the incline and RR. Puget Sound Energy, that owns the flume and hydroelectric plant has it on Vimeo. It is a typical 1953 promotional film, with corny narration, just like most the ones shown in public schools in the 50's. I certainly saw many this way! It's very unique and a fun film, about 6 minutes. http://vimeo.com/5864672

I expected my 4th grade teacher to come by and whack me with her ruler for talking. Really takes me back.
I liked the guy who used to narrate the Herron Films, Ralph Morse. He reminded me of the old grade school movies also.
Thanks.

From the video t'would seem the "rail route" comprises a cable railway, conventional adhesion line, and a funicular..
