Rather curious as to how the Sauk City-Mazomanie area fared through the flooding this past spring. Nothing to say that in the long term that Mid-Continent might want to relocate to a less vulnerable location.

It is interesting that the newspiece was nearly a verbatim copy of recent Mid Continent blogs. These are informative and indicate that the group has leaders who are considering new and interesting options for the group. Whether they come to pass is a matter for the group to decide and see if it is willing to take on a challenge.

I personally think that the service expansion could be beneficial, because it adds a new dimension to a well established group. The change would be successful if it generates additional volunteers, additional revenue (fares and donors), increased public exposure, and good community relations. It has good potential, especially if it can be made cost-effective. The project might also divide the group, if some are not willing to try out new tricks. Good and bad, one needs to remember Worthington, OH (though it's not at all a direct parallel).

Sauk City and Mazomanie had little flood damage. They are on the Wisconsin River below the dam at Lake Wisconsin and are much better protected from flooding.

I don't foresee the entire museum relocating as the historical society has a good relationship with North Freedom and are a major part of the economy there. Currently the museum at North Freedom is insular due to the bridge over the Baraboo River being out of service. If the bridge is repaired the museum is connected to the UP line (operated by WSOR) from Madison which was the C&NW mainline between Chicago and Minneapolis prior to the Adams Cutoff being completed in 1911. This offers connection to the line from Sauk to Mazo via the former Badger Army Ammunition Plant (WSOR wants to avoid going through the plant which is being decommission and turn over to several state and local governments) or via Madison.

I am a volunteer/member of Mid-Continent. I think this is a good opportunity for the historical society to expand its base. Personally I think it would increase visitors. Just think of being able to ride two trains in one day!
