The state has had a similar designation to the north of us, the "Shenandoah Battlefields Historic District" , in effect for several years. It seems to be having a positive impact on the Civil War sites and attractions. Highway signage is good in the corridor, and I have heard that it has helped with fundraising for battlefield preservation.
