Cincinnati Street Railway car 2227 is to be loaded today (11/5) and delivered to Pennsylvania Trolley Museum at Washington, PA later in the day. PTM crews will unload the car beginning at 0800 on 11/6. Although 2227 was originally broad gauge (62.5") its trucks are now standard gauge. The unloading process will include placing the carbody on a temporary pair of broad gauge trucks. The original trucks will then be modified back to broad gauge so the car can enter service at PTM. Operation of the car at PTM is anticipated by mid-2010. Contributions toward the cost of the truck work would be very welcome. Visit PTM's website at www.pa-trolley.org/

Next car scheduled out is Iowa Southern Utilities box motor 101, said to be loading and heading to Connecticut on Monday (11/9)

We are expecting the 101 to arrive on Tuesday. Iowa southern line car 1 and the bobber caboose should arrive on Wednesday after making a stop to drop off the tower car in New York. Everything is ready at the museum to recieve the cars. The big car moves are still being worked out with no date set yet.

IRM is set for another imminent delivery, and not one you might have expected.

Randy Hicks of IRM is reporting this morning on his blog that IRM is getting yet another car, one of the ex-GCRTA PCC cars, #63, which is ex-Twin Cities Rapid Transit 352. Master car restorer Frank Sirinek is said to be heading up this accquistion, including the funding.

I'm pleased to report that Cincinnati 2227 was unloaded and temporarily retrucked at PTM on Friday 11/6. PTM looks forward to receiving two more cars in the coming weeks; parlor car "Toledo" and box motor 100. The former will eventually returned to motor car status and the latter dismantled for parts. The work to return Pittsburgh Railways "high floor" car 4145's trucks back to their original 62.5" gauge is now under way and is expected to be completed in early 2010. 4145 will require some additional work on electrical issues, so public operation at PTM will be delayed until those matters are dealt with. The truck and motor work on 4145 has been contracted out to Lyons Industries of Ebensburg, PA.

A quiet rumor has been floated that interested parties in Iowa are hoping to salvage the 100's body for a return back across the Mississippi. My understanding is they're hoping for at least a "stuffed/mounted" display if they can acquire the body. Any info you might have/willing to share from your end ?

Yes, PTM has received an inquiry from a group in Iowa about the 100. I doubt that the group is fully aware of the deteriorated condition of the car. Our position is that any group that wants the carbody can come and get it after we have removed the parts that we want. It saves us the effort of dismantling the body and disposing of remains.

I was at LSE warehouse on the dock this morning to meet with a vendor about moving some large items to the Northern Ohio Railway Museum. While I was there Silk Road was loading the NYO&W caboose onto a conventional lowboy equiped with temporary rails. The Box motor 101 had been loaded the previous evening by the three Silk Road drivers. There were issues with the length of the trailer holding 101 (would have needed an escort) so they unloaded the car during the day, shrunk the trailer one section and reloaded the car tight on the trailer. Silk Road needed a place to have their permits faxed to from the state DOT so I hooked them up with another NORM member who works nearby and they had the permits sent to his office. Shortly after 3pm the permits came in for 2 of the 3 trucks. Jim then delivered the permits to the dock. As this is written car 1 and 101 are on their way east. As of 7PM the NYO&W bobber caboose is sitting on the dock waiting for its chance to travel.

Hm, sounds like tomorrow is going to be busier than expected. We were schedueled to get 101 tomorrow with 1 and cabose coming the next day. Sounds like 101 and 1 will arrive tomorrow with the caboose coming alone on wednesday.

Two of the cars have successfully reached the CT Trolley Museum. We unloaded the line car #1 and the box motor #101 last night (Wednesday evening 11/11/09). 101 arrived around 5:00 P.M. and #1 arrived around 7;30 P.M. Both were unloaded by 10:30 P.M. or so. We expect to recieve the 4-wheel caboose sometime today (thursday). Thanks to everyone who have helped us both in Cleveland and here in Connecticut.

To some the 4 wheel caboose would seem out of place. We know that the Iowa Southern used 4 wheel cabooses as part of their freight service. We see this as a great opportunity to attract young patrons and get them interested in our great hobby. We are going to start using this caboose and the Iowa Southern 101 on the first saturday of the month during our regular operating season. Imagine the thrill of a youngster as he or she gets to ride in this caboose as its pulled down our line. We hope to capture their interest early and hope that it will grow as they grow older.

To update everyone on car movements. All three of our first cars have arrived. 1 and 101 arrived late wednesday afternoon evening and were unloaded after 8:30 pm that evening. The caboose arrived late this afternoon and was unload just as the sun set. It was a tough move between permit issues and a driver ending up in the hospital. We ended up with 3 trucks and 2 drivers. My understanding from one driver was that his next move was going to be the pcc that is now going out to IRM. I hope the rest of the moves go easier than this group did.

Has anyone besides me, noticed the "Private Car" plaque that had been added to the side of Southern Iowa bobber #102 when she was in service on the SIRy? Does this perhaps mean that the little hack was privately owned and, more importantly, might have survived the railroads demise?
