Northwest Railway Museum Receives $180K Grant

The Northwest Railway Museum in Snoqualmie, WA has been awarded a $180,000 grant from the Save America's Treasures to restore 1898 Baptist Chapel Car "Messenger of Peace". More info can be found at the museums blog:

Somebody up there obviously carefully read "Grant Writing for Dummies."

I think there's a lesson in there for all of us.

This is most interesting; I have never heard of this car before.
I am glad to hear that another of those grand old wooden cars will be restored.

I heard that another Chapel Car was in Virginia City Montana in a collection that has since been broken up.

Does anyone know what happened to that car?

The chapel car from Montana went to John Larkin of Michigan in 1996, in a trade for the 30" gauge steam locomotive that now runs on the Alder Gulch Shortline.

It is a beautiful car, I hope no one has chosen to kill it! I spent alot of time in it and the other cars in Nevada City as a kid

We must congratulate the Richard and all at The Northwest Railway Museum.

Save America's Treasures is a highly competitive grant program, requiring a one for one match which it appears they have in place.

They seem to have all the other "Right Stuff"... a maintenance building ("Conservation and Maintenance Center" a great name) are building a train shed, they are doing active restoration and documenting it well on their web site and blog...

There at two "Save America's Treasures" grant tracks... one for buildings, the other for collections... I had always assumed that a railroad car would be under the building track, but they have received their grant under the collections track...

Again, Congratulations...
