The original luxury tour train is ending? See link on this NPR story-

Ironic that I see this today, when just yesterday I mentioned the dismal economy may be indicated by the 2008 loss of Grand Luxe Rail Journeys (the American Orient Express successor). I believed that cars were auctioned off after that failure, but the current AOE website has me wondering what is going on...

Note: This is not the Venice-Simplon Orient express that makes special runs in Europe. I just looked at their website www.orientexpress.com and they have lists of departures for 2010!

The bulk of the AOE/Grande Luxe cars are stored at the former D&RGW Burnam shops here in Denver,CO. I notice a few have been sold and the balance have had their owner names and striping removed.
Owned by Xterra, a national park consessionaire, the future is unknown. Xterra also runs the current Grand Ccanyon Railway. Xterra is part of the Anschutz group, former owners of the "Ski Train" now at the Algoma Central.
You almost need a road map to follow the progressions.
