As mentioned on this forum before, IRM has a mail crane and invites former RPO clerks out once a year to try their hand at making one more "catch". There are several videos of the operation posted on Youtube, taken from both outside and inside the RPO. Two of them are:

Note the sophisticated way of delivering the mail at the same time as picking it up.

PSRM in Campo, CA, has done it in the past. See http://www.sdrm.org/gallery/videos/rpo-catch-long.mpg. A few other videos are in the Gallery section of their web site, [url]psrm.org[/url] We have some mechanical issues with the car, so we haven't done this demo for a few years. Some higher priority issues have kept us from addressing this one.

Minnesota Transportation Museum has a mail crane set up at their Osceola, Wisconsin depot. They demonstrate pick-up and drop-off of mail bags for special events using their triple combine NP 1102 which has a complete RPO apartment.

Orange Empire has done a couple of demonstrations of mail pick-up on the fly during member event days. The mail crane was a temporary set up on the main platform.
