At least they saved something. There are over 100 former textile mills in New Bedford Massachusetts and no textile machinery was saved from any of them for display. The closest Textile Museum to New Bedford is an hour and a half drive away in Lowell. PC |

A quick search reveals that the entire engine will be displayed, not just the wheel, and that for $138,000 it will not be made to run with an electric motor. Apparently the person in charge of buildign the museum doesn't have the first clue about machinery, claiming that they would have to "oil the engine" and that would be so inconvenient and would result in an oily mist that would cover all the other exhibits. Our big engine makes theirs look like a toy, and it will run with an electric motor. I am going to pull out the pistons and install a recirculating lube system with low oil pressure shutoffs so the engine operates with a minimum of maintenance. |
