A productive day plugging through Railserve: Looks like the 2 MRS-1's and 2 Alco S-3's are available, in whole or in part for those so interested. I was at Cass this past weekend. The MRS-1's and the S-4 are in the process of being scrapped. Not much left of them as I laid eyes on them, with the scrappers working that day. By the time I type this, they are but a memory. I did hear, and did see, some parts that are set aside for future use in other locos. I believe that other items from the 'river dead line' are gone too, but can't identify as I don't know. I saw some open window coaches apparently awaiting their turn at the torch, too, but can't confirm. Also have word directly from Cass management that the 2-8-0 has been sold. I know who bought it, but don't know if I can relay that information. The buyer is a knowledgeable steam person with intent directly or indirectly to restore it. Mark |

We picked up a bunch of 539 parts for next to nothing. Here is the real shame, the 2 S4s had converted roller bearing axles under the journal box covers, they are now gone. |

The S4 trucks were NOT roller bearing. I have a set of them at my shop and trust me when I say that they are standard (friction) bearing. The MRS1 trucks, however, ARE/were roller bearing equipped. Three of the gensets have been purchased intact. One of the 539s had the aforementioned components removed (they are also in my shop) along with all of the components of the four electrical cabinets. I do not know of any other components or parts that were purchased and assume that what has not already been taken will wind up at Cycle Systems, or a similar facility, in the not-to-distant future. |
