Sale of Milwaukee Road 261?

Once again, the status of 261 on Sterling Rail's website has changed from "Sale Pending" to "For Sale", which I suppose means that the sale to the California collector has again fallen through. Anybody know anything else? I haven't talked to Steve Sandberg in a week or two, so I know nothing from his perspective.

Thanks for the update. I'm sure someone who just signed up about to post that she is sold and will be converted to burn french-fry oil.

They're going to run a doubleheader with that cog engine from Mt Washington Cog Railway that's up for sale again.

Reading 2100 was fueled with both used crankcase oil and diesel fuel.

Grand Canyon Railway is running 4960 on Waste Vegetable Oil (sounds so much better than "old french fry grease" and they're putting all kinds of positive spin on the project.

Actually at one point early on, Tom Payne did order a load of Bio-Diesel for the 2100. It didn't work out too well, but it did clean the grease and other junk out of every single fuel line, hose and pipe right and forced it right into the burner.

Here is a most excellent video by Xanterra telling the story about why the Grand Canyon steam trains now burn vegetable oil.
This video shows that Xanterra has a lot of respect for the love and history of mainline steam at the Grand Canyon.
I felt that this video helps to put the veggie oil issue in a good historic context of a continuing effort to clean up the environment.
This at least demonstrates that it is POSSIBLE to run a limited steam train operation burning vegetable oil + french fry oil

If the sale is dead, will anyone who proclaimed to know the truth about it all along care to share the details? Or do I have to stoke up my Neil Young rumor again! :-)

I don't believe Neil Young rumers are partriclarly helpful.. Personally I believe patience is best virtue to be exercised here. The history of this saga will come out in due time. This is not the time.

No one commented on the real significance of the Xanterra video. If they took the time to make the video and publicize it, then steam has some future at the Grand Canyon.

It's irrelevant being that the title of this post pertains to the sale of MILW 261. It has nothing to do with 2100, Xanterra or the Grand Canyon Railway. It's troubling to see how some of the posts here get so far off topic.
