IIRC, she came from the Delson Collection, in exchange for the 6060. What I don't understand is if CNR still has access to locomotives it may want for its own purposes? CNR 6060, a beautiful loco with a first class restoration, was eventually donated to a group in Alberta, which is fine, but she doesn't get to stretch her legs as she should. The other question is, what did Delson get in exchange for 6015?

I wonder if CPR actually owns 2816, or if it remains a long term loan item?

Does 6060 operate each year?

The feed water heater is fake though, but that's okay. Last time I saw the engine it was missing.

Its also missing its Feed Water Pump, mechanical lubricator, and numberboards. The cab numerals look rather strange, almost as if the 1 is missing, and notice the dynamo sitting on top of the turret, not sure what that's all about.

Dick, If my memory serves me correctly, when the proposal came up to remove 6060 for restoration, the town of Jasper did not want to lose "its engine." Exporail stepped up to the plate and offered them 6015 in order to facilitate the restoration of 6060. As far as I know, they got nothing in return.

Kevin, it's an interesting exercise in altruism on the part of the Exporail people. They have plenty of their own locomotives to take care of, and we got a Mountain in live steam, for awhile, at least. I'd like to see CNR shop the 6060 once again and take her out to stretch her legs cross country style.

The other question is, what did Delson get in exchange for 6015? The Canadian Railroad Historical Association (a.k.a. Delson) did not give up ownership of 6015 to anybody. They still own it. They have a number of locomotives on long term lease to different groups or organizations although I do not know the specifics of the agreement for 6015. Other engines they still own, but have been on long term lease to other groups..... CN 4-6-0 # 1112 currently at the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario - http://www.sfrmeo.ca/ CN 4-6-0 # 1009 currently at the Salem & Hillsborough Railway in New Brunswick. They have not operated any trains in a few years, but I believe 1009 is on display next door at the The New Brunswick Railway Museum. - http://www.nbrm.ca/en/index.shtml Northern Alberta Railway 2-8-0 #73 is at the Alberta Railway Museum although there has been a long going controversy about who actually owns the engine. The Railway Museum or the CRHA. http://www.railwaymuseum.ab.ca/ Probably the most surprising is CP 4-4-0 # 29 because of who it is leases to. It is now a lawn ornament at the front door of CPR headquarters in Calgary. It was in running condition until 1994 when it was badly damaged in a fire at the Salem & Hillsborough Railway in NB. Just by pure coincidence I came across an old newspaper clipping this morning while going through some boxes at the Elgin County Railway Museum just on this subject . Is says at the time CN still owned 6060, as they did for about 10 other steam locomotives. I assume for what ever reason, it was the best candidate for restoration. The CRHA replaced 6060 in Jasper with 6015. They were supposed to get in return 6218, which had just recently been retired from excursion service, once it had be cannibalized for parts to get 6060 running. For what ever reason that never happened and 6218 ended up in Fort Erie where she still sits today. I don't believe CN owns any steam locomotives today, but I know they did until fairly recently. Streamlined Northern #6400 was officially donated to the Canada Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa only 5 or 6 years ago, although it has been there for much longer. Ten years ago CN Hudson #5700 (nee: 5703) was donated outright to the Elgin County Railway Museum in St. Thomas, Ontario, even though it has been there for 22 years and another 20 plus years at the Canada Museum of Science and Technology before that.

Fascinating information, K5! It's pretty wild to imagine the CNR retaining ownership of these museum and display pieces into the 21st Century. Perhaps they were worried that the Diesel fleet might not "prove" itself? Hey, I can dream, can't I? I wonder if CPR actually owns 2816, or if it remains a long term loan item? It's a shame 6218 didn't go where she'd be better cared for. Does 6060 operate each year?
